NEW YORKNovember 11, 2017Morgan James’ new children’s book release, Grandma and Me: A Kids Guide for Alzheimer’s and Dementia by Beatrice Tauber Prior and Mary Ann Drummond, is a child-friendly guide to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. It was written to help young children who are not familiar with the diseases to understand them and form better relationships with their grandparents.

Grandma and Me is a guide that was completely designed with children in mind, using simple terms and colorful illustrations while also being very informative. Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are topics that are not typically discussed with children, as they can be very difficult to understand, but Grandma and Me was written by authors with many years of clinical experience in dealing with both children and the elderly. It provides a gentle and age-appropriate explanation of the two diseases, addressing these important topics with great care and understanding.

Coach, trainer and speaker Kristen Schottenheimer, daughter of former NFL Coach, Marty Schottenheimer, calls Grandma and Me “an amazing gift to parents and grandchildren of those dealing with Alzheimer’s”.  Ms. Schottenheimer further shares: “My father has been dealing with Alzheimer’s for about 5 years now. Our family, including four grandchildren, often struggle with ways to help my father and each other through this journey.  We try to focus on love and solutions. “Grandma and Me” is full of tangible ways young children can help their grandparents and keep that special connection.  Thank you to Beatrice, MaryAnn and Julia for putting the words and images together so my children, and so many others, can understand and help love their grandparents through this journey”.

Grandma and Me is a must-read in children’s literature because it discusses a topic that can be very relevant to children, but is often times not explained to them. From their clinical experience, authors Beatrice Prior and Mary Ann Drummond understand the toll that Alzheimer’s and dementia can take on relationships, and they wrote this new book to help children maintain their relationship with grandparents who suffer from these illnesses. Through this educational book, children will gain a much better understanding of their grandparents and learn to treat them with love and compassion.
